The German pro has already scored over $2 million in live events this year
Oliver Weis has continued his impressive 2024 poker streak by winning the European Poker Tour (EPT) Cyprus Main Event, adding another seven-figure payday to his already successful year. The German poker pro outlasted a tough field of 1,284 players in the $5,300 No-Limit Hold’em event, securing $1,030,000 for his victory. This win came close to surpassing his career-best, but it fell just short of the $1,047,816 he earned at the EPT Paris earlier in the year.
This triumph brings Weis’ total live tournament earnings to more than $5.2 million, with half of that amount earned in 2024 alone. His performance has been remarkable, earning him two significant titles this year, including a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in the $5,000 short deck event. With his latest victory, Weis has also accumulated 4,940 Player of the Year (POY) points, placing him 13th in the Card Player POY race.
The event attracted top talent, generating a prize pool of over $6.2 million. Notable players like Artur Martirosian, Nicolas Chouity, and Diogo Coelho made deep runs, but it was Weis who dominated the final day. He started with the chip lead among the remaining six players, and Sweden’s Anton Wigg was the first to fall. Wigg’s departure was followed by Bobby James, Andriy Lyubovetskiy, and Mikhail Shalamov, setting up a heads-up showdown between Weis and Cyprus native Georgios Tsouloftas.
Although Tsouloftas held a significant chip advantage early on, Weis steadily closed the gap and eventually took control. The final hand saw Tsouloftas all-in with K-2 against Weis’ Q-7, with the board securing the win for Weis and his latest EPT title. Tsouloftas took home $642,300 for his second-place finish, marking a career-best for the Cypriot player.
