Several deep runs and final table finishes catapulted Collopy to the top of the leaderboard
Jim Collopy has made a strong statement in the poker world by securing the 2024 Poker Masters Purple Jacket in a great fashion. Unlike many poker series where the race for the top spot is a nail-biter until the final moments, Collopy wrapped up the victory before the last event even began. His performance throughout the series was marked by consistency and skill, particularly in the No-Limit Hold ’em format, which he dominated despite being known for playing a variety of poker games.
Collopy’s journey to the Purple Jacket was highlighted by four consecutive final table appearances in events 3 through 6. He finished the series with an impressive $521,600 in total earnings, the highest amount won by any player in this year’s Poker Masters. His consistent success earned him 522 PokerGO Tour (PGT) points, putting him comfortably ahead of second-place finisher Isaac Haxton, who had 458 points.
The journey started with a sixth-place finish in Event 3, a $10,100 buy-in, which earned him $47,000 and 47 PGT points. The following day, he claimed third place in another $10,100 buy-in, adding $105,300 and 105 points to his total. Event 5 saw him reach heads-up play but fall just short, earning $142,500 and 146 points. He concluded his run with another runner-up finish in the first of two $15,100 buy-ins, which netted him $226,800 and a further 227 points.
This victory also comes with a $25,000 PGT Passport and a PokerStars Gold Pass for the upcoming North American Poker Tour Las Vegas stop. Beyond this series, Collopy’s achievements place him seventh on the season-long PGT leaderboard and sixth in the 2024 Card Player Player of the Year standings. It’s clear that his performance at the Poker Masters is just one chapter in what’s shaping up to be a remarkable year for him.
