Daly beat Carson Wieland heads-up to win his latest score
Play at the final table of the Champions Club Winter Poker Open $1,100 PLO Championship on Tuesday ended at almost 4 AM the following morning, with Jason Daly outlasting the final 26 players of the 199 entries to win the title after beating Carson Wieland heads-up.
Daly claimed $41,635 and the champions’ trophy with the win, with Wieland securing $35,070 for second place. The pair agreed to split most of the $192,035 prize pool when heads-up play started, with $5,000 and the trophy left to play for. The victory boosted Daly’s career tournament earnings to just under $1 million.
Day 2 started with 26 players and Thai Ha as the chip leader, using his stack to constantly pressure his opponents as he took a two-to-one chip lead on the nearest competitor as the final table began. After about half an hour of play, Daly would start his rise into the chip lead by eliminating Jason Fitzpatrick, who would take $4,800 for ninth place.
Kevin Kaylor ($5,850) would fall in eighth place before Ha won his first big pot at the final table to send Sung Keem ($6,600) to the rail in seventh place. Daly would then bust George Abi-Zeid ($7,860) in sixth place to go over three million in chips.
Danylo Turov ($9,250) and Ray Henson ($17,600) were the short stacks during five-handed play, finishing fifth and third, respectively, and Ha ($11,970) would finish in fourth after Wieland sniffed out his bluff.
Daly eventually took a big chip lead in heads-up play, leading to the final hand as Wieland’s draw couldn’t catch up to his pair to end the tournament and give Daly the title.
