The latest win puts the pro in the lead on the PokerGO leaderboard
The 2024 PokerGO Cup is nearly wrapping up after completing the seventh of the eight events. David Peters is the only player to win multiple titles in the series after the 36-year-old won the $5,300 buy-in opening event for $141,525 and then overcame 70 entries to take $315,000 in the $15,700 buy-in tournament.
Peters now has $456,525 in earnings for the series, tallying 457 PokerGO Tour points to put him 110 points ahead of his nearest competitor in the race for the PokerGO Cup championship. He’s moved up to fourth place in the PGT standings, and his four final tables in 2024 have also earned him 1,324 Card Player Player of the Year points, which is 10th in the 2024 POY standings presented by Global Poker.
Peters began the day second in chips behind recent 2023 PGT Championship winner Daniel Smiljkovic. Morten Klein was the first to fall after Brock Wilson sent him home in sixth place ($57,750).
Seth Davies was eliminated in fifth place ($78,750) shortly after Kristen Foxen doubled up against him with top two pair. Smiljkovic’s run would end after his A-Q couldn’t catch up to Wilson’s pocket fours, sending the German home in fourth place for $105,000.
Wilson would risk the last of his stack in with A-K leading vs. Peters’ Q-10, but a queen-high runout would give him third place and $141,750.
Peters held a 2 to 1 chip lead to start heads-up play and would soon turn it into the title after Foxen moved all-in with J-10 offsuit vs. Peters’ A-4 suited. He would see another ace on the turn to send Foxen to the rail with $204,750 as runner-up.
